Privacy Policy
Applies to Blue Edge on iPhone and iPad, Blue Edge Companion on Mac, and this website.
Summary: your waypoints, fish logs, trips and catch photos are stored on your devices, not on a Blue Edge server. There’s no Blue Edge account, and no ads, analytics or tracking in the apps. Some features do contact other services. This policy lists each one and what it receives.
1. Who we are
Operator: Blue Edge Software, LLC
Location: Melbourne, FL, USA
Contact: [email protected]
2. What stays on your devices
- Waypoints, fish logs, trips, catch photos and app settings are stored in the app’s storage on your device.
- Sync runs directly between devices you’ve paired, over Wi‑Fi or peer-to-peer. It’s encrypted and doesn’t pass through a Blue Edge server.
.blubackups go only where you put them.- Deleting the app removes its local data, subject to your device’s normal backups.
3. What the apps use on your device
Precise location (iPhone and iPad)
Used to show your position, place marks, tie catches to a location and record trips. Background location is used only while a trip is recording, and stops when you end the trip.
Photos and camera
Used when you add or import catch photos, or use a photo as a map icon. Photos you add are copied into the app’s storage, and to your paired devices if you sync.
Local network
Used to find and sync with your paired devices. Devices on your network can see that the app is available for pairing, but only paired devices can sync.
4. What Blue Edge receives
Blue Edge runs one service, at relief.blue-edge.app, which delivers paid map data. Free use of the apps doesn’t contact it. It never receives your waypoints, trips, catches or GPS position.
Purchase check
Before fetching paid data, the app sends the service your App Store transaction records, which are signed by Apple, and Apple’s device verification ID for this app. The service checks them and returns a short-lived access token. The app doesn’t store the device ID, and the token doesn’t contain your account, transaction or device ID.
Device limit
To enforce a limit of five devices per purchase, the service keeps a hash of the transaction ID, a shortened hash of the device ID, and the time it was last seen. These records expire after 90 days without use.
Pack downloads
A download request shows which pack you’re fetching, not where you are.
Network information
Like any internet service, the service receives your IP address when you connect. It runs on Cloudflare, which processes requests on our behalf. Our service code doesn’t store IP addresses.
5. What other services receive
| Service | What it receives | When |
|---|---|---|
| Apple (App Store) | Your purchases. Apple handles payment, and we never see your card. | When you buy or restore |
| Apple Maps | Map requests for the area you view | When the map is in use |
| Apple Weather | A location rounded to about 1 km, and the dates of a catch or trip | When a catch or trip is opened |
| NOAA Tides & Currents | A station ID. The nearest station is chosen on your device, so no coordinates are sent. | With catch and trip conditions |
| NOAA chart service | Map tile requests for the area you view | When a NOAA chart layer is on or downloaded |
| OpenSeaMap | Map tile requests for the area you view | When Sea Marks is on |
These services receive your IP address with each request and handle data under their own policies.
6. Support and bug reports
If you email us or send a bug report, we receive what you choose to include. Bug reports stay on your device until you share them.
7. Tracking and advertising
The apps contain no advertising, third-party analytics or cross-app tracking.
8. Children
The apps aren’t directed at children under 13.
9. Your choices
- Limit Location, Photos, Camera and Local Network in your device settings. Features that need them won’t fully work.
- End a trip to stop background location.
- Delete marks in the app, or delete the app to remove its data.
- Cancel your subscription in your Apple account. To ask about purchase records held by the service, email us.
10. This website
This website has no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking, and sets no cookies of its own. Cloudflare hosts it, and receives your IP address and the page you ask for in order to deliver the page and protect the site. We don’t use that to identify you. Because the site doesn’t track anyone, it treats every visit the same, whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal. The feedback form opens your own mail app, so we receive only what you choose to send.
11. Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update the date at the top of this page.
